“Mom, it’s Sunday. Why do we have to get up?”
“We are going to church. I decided that we needed to be in church. So stop whining and get dressed.”
By 10 am, everyone was dressed, fed and the dog had been outside. The grumping continued. “Mom, no one I know goes to church. Why do we have to go?”
“We’re going. You’ll meet some friends there who do go to church. Get in the car, buckle your seatbelts and let’s go.”
As Susan drove her car the 10 minutes to the church building, she began to have her doubts. She didn’t know anyone who went to church either. She remembered going with her parents when she was small. But she had not been in church except for a wedding for 10 years. Would it be obvious to everyone that her kids had never been in church? Would they find friends like she promised? As she passed the mall, she nearly changed her mind about going to church. But she stuck to it.
Is your church ready for Susan and her family to arrive this Sunday? Would her kids find friends? Would she? Are you ready to help her get engaged? Within seven minutes after she turns into your parking lot, she and her children will decide whether they will ever return. Would you even notice they were there within seven minutes?
Whether you are ready or not, Susan may be on her way to your church on Sunday.
